Although popularly known for his depictions of the human body in “X-ray form” (finely detailed anatomical studies interlaced with overlays of energy systems), his work is a rich amalgam that includes references to ancient Tibetan Buddhist sources. ![]() Artist Alex Grey has aroused the interest and imagination of many spiritual seekers and practitioners. ![]() ![]() ![]() Rose Greenhow also hated the Union and used her spy ring in Washington DC, to feed intelligence to Confederate forces on the eve of the war’s first big battle at Bull Run.ĭry, academic history this is not. ![]() ![]() It is action without meddlesome, contentious, or egotistical exertion. Chapter 38 So wu wei is not non-action but effortless action. Obviously, this is not the same as doing nothing. The closest analogy would be when an athlete is "in the zone." The actions are not coming from the thinking or calculating area of the mind, but they are being done. Actions come from a more intuitive area of the mind. It is not a life of a sloth or laziness, but one in which the least possible effort yields the most effective and productive outcome. However, true wu wei is the most efficient action possible, the most spontaneous and often the most creative action. Chapter 63 (Stephen Mitchell translation) Nonaction or inaction is almost a heretical thought in Western society. ![]() It's most commonly translated "nonaction or inaction," and appears in verses of the Tao Te Ching like: Act without doing Wu wei may be the most misunderstood of all the precepts of Taoism. The illustrations by Marc Simont are particularly fetching and the story, while simplicity itself, gives a great understanding of what role a tree has in everyday life.Īs a forest, they 'fill up the sky', they live besides rivers and in valleys, even just one tree is nice because, '. And I have always had an interest in trees from a young age, particularly from my teenage years when my wife to be and myself used to picnic at Kew Gardens in London. Perhaps rather parochially my favourite tree in the whole world is an oak tree aged a few hundred years that lives at the entrance to my daughter's property. ![]() |
